John Boyega and Joe Cornish Reunite for 'Attack the Block' Sequel
The British sci-fi film turns 10 this month
Published May 17, 2021Last week marked a decade since the release of British sci-fi comedy Attack the Block, and it's now been reported that director Joe Cornish and star John Boyega have reunited to give the cult favourite a sequel.
While plot details are still under wraps, Deadline reports that Boyega will reprise his role as Moses and produce the film alongside Cornish, who is writing and directing the sequel. The site adds that original producers Nira Park and James Wilson will also be returning.
"It's been a decade since Attack the Block was released and so much has changed since then," Boyega said in a statement. "I'm excited to see this heightened story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favourite characters to play and bringing him back is a huge honour."
Cornish added: "I'm thrilled we're officially announcing our return to the world of Attack the Block on the 10th anniversary of the film's release. I can't wait to work alongside John again, bringing audiences an even bigger slice of inner-city alien action."
Before his more recent turns in the Star Wars universe and Steve McQueen's drama Small Axe, Boyega launched his career with his starring role in Attack the Block, which Exclaim! called "one of the most vital British films released since Peter Mullan's Neds" in a review upon its release.
The film, which featured a score from Basement Jaxx and Steven Price, won audience awards at both SXSW and the Los Angeles Film Festival.
