Versteeg explained the band's origins in a post on Instagram, writing that the band formed around a handful of unreleased material they had lying around. They recorded the songs and, over the course of a year, finished an album.
Versteeg tells it like this:
Last summer I got together with a few of my tour buds who also happen to be some of my favourite songwriters. We mostly made dad jokes but we also jammed on a bunch of 3 chord songs we all had lying around. We recorded a bunch of stuff in a few days and over the year we'd add some ideas here and there and all of a sudden a year had past and we realized we had kinda an album so we said lets name ourselves the first thing we thought of and release these.
Anyway Gang's first single will be called "Big Night," and it's due out in a few weeks. That's the cover art down below. Their Instagram bio reads, "Chris, Menno, Sam and Dave. Three chord maximum."
This is actually the second supergroup to feature Hollerado and Tokyo Police Club, since Girlfriend Material bring together different members of the same group.
Sloan's Chris Murphy is also in a couple of other Canadian rock supergroups, as he plays in Trans-Canada Highwaymen and TUNS.
Inadvertently using the template sometimes called "2 studs, the fat guy and the nerd" popularized in the 1980's by such movies as Stand By Me and bands such as Cheap Trick comes @anywaygangmusic. Will these 4 acquaintances become friends? Which 2 are the studs? What are they doing? What have they done? So many questions? Stay tuned. Photo by @calmellarm
