Published Dec 03, 2018Pale Drone may have unveiled their existence on last year's April Fools' Day, but the real fools were those who didn't pay attention to the October 2017 drop of their demo. The group, which features former members of Boys Night Out, New Day Rising, Spread the Disease and others, are set to unleash two new songs and we've got them ahead of the December 7 release to help you avoid the "fool me twice" part of the cliché idiom.
The new tunes continue on in the vein of the first release, with "Old Ghosts" opening with a commanding doom groove before breaking into a punkier mid-section, complete with super catchy tremolo riffing, then a breakdown that circles back into the doomy beginning. "Regolith Rips" leans more on the sludge side of the equation, ripping into an early Mastodon-esque angular assault after a haunting intro. A mid-song drumroll makes way for a melodic death metal riff that segues back into the sludge section, proving that these dudes know that good songwriting includes repetition.
The two new songs will be available on 7-inch (via their own Old God Records) and a compilation cassette including their first four songs (via Blacktop Records). Both will be available at Pale Drone's performance at Burly Calling on December 8. Check them out below, so you can ensure your headbanging will be in sync at the show.
